Padman Actress Urmila Mahanta’s Next Is An Assamese Thriller

Her last film Padman has not only created a stir in the society for relevant reasons but also gave the actress the positioning as a brand. Urmila Mahanta, a known face of our Hindi films Manjhi and Akira is gearing up for her next which is an Assamese film based on ULFA terrorist activities.

Talking about the film, Urmila says, “The film is a female oriented based on ULFA terrorist activities and fake encounters during insurgency. It is a journey of a girl named Palki Kashyap who is trying to find out the truth about her father. Its in the thriller space.”

     

“Since I have done films in Assam, my director Monjori Borkotoky approached me for the role and I loved the script. Veteran Bishnu Kharghoria will also play a pivotal role along with me. I am shooting the entire film in Guwahati for next 20-25 days. The film schedule is expected to wrap up by December 16th and the makers are aiming to send it to several film festivals prior to the theatrical release,” she adds.

Recently Urmila won the best actress award at the 7th State Film Award for most talked about film of Assam Bokul. She received the award from eminent directors Prakash Jha and Amol Palekar. For the same film, Urmila also bagged the best actress award at Patna International Film Festival.
